Hot...Steamy ..Fast Moving and a Great Read

The is the conclusion of this fantastic steamy erotic series. HUM HUM HUM in Healed it really gets right here right now. There is no way I can begin to tell you how good this book is and how it ties everything up.

HOT.... Steamy ... Sexy ... BDSM.... OH YES WE GET SOME GIRL LOVE IN THIS BOOK 2

I am not one to give a story line away so I have been trying to figure out what can I say without saying to much. Henry we know has been hiding things and we find out just what is going on.... This book is fast moving and yes once again I will say HOT.
IF you have not read the other 2 grab them and read them this series is so good. Looking forward to more from Cynthia Dane
I received an advanced copy for a review and then purchased one so I would have one in my library to go with the other books I have in the series. You always need a matched set, at least I do because I love to go back and re-read later.

A wonderful Ending, or should I say beginning, to a heartwarming journey!

As Harry & Monica's relationship continues, the hidden secret that Harry is trying to hide is revealed. Can Monica trust Harry knowing what this secret is? As one who has been burned in the past her hurt is now kept somewhere in the forefront at all times. Will their relationship be able to hold it together and can Monica trust Harry knowing what she does about his past?

Jackson Lyle, the devious sadist, continues to plague Monica and in an ironic twist is put in his place near the end. How is it that he has been able to continue hurting young girls for his own pleasure. I would have liked to have seen Jackson be held more responsible for his actions more than he really was. It is always nice to see a villain reap what he sows.

I LOVED the story line and the characters and had a hard time putting it down. As a person who isn't into really descriptive love scenes, I'd rather use my own imagination thank you, I was able to pass over them and still not have any of the story missing. Don't get me wrong, I am POSITIVE that other's of you who LOVE those kinds of descriptions would REALLY enjoy the whole book in its entirety.

This, as well as the whole series, was VERY WELL written and you were able to fall in love, or hate, with the characters the whole way through.

an amazing conclusion

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. This is part of a series not meant as a stand alone.

In this book we finally learn the big secret that Henry is keeping from Monica. In this book we also have Monica and Henry finally confessing their true feelings for one another and in this book we also find out what kind of Dom Henry really is. At the end of the last book we find out what type of dom Henry is with Monica. However in this book Henry's sister Evangeline makes sure that she sees a little more of the person he is trying to keep from her. Eva isn't sure if this is to protect her or to make sure not to scare her away from him. Monica knows the root of all of their problems and if she could just get rid of him all of them would be happier.

Henry wants Monica he has never made this a secret in this book we find out how deep his feelings go as well as how long he has had them. Henry knows keeping the secret from Monica had the possibility of driving a wedge between them the question he has now is can he fix that wedge before it becomes a full blown un-repairable problem.

In this third and final book we find a book that is full of love, acceptance, and giving the person you love just what they need to bloom right before you eyes. I would recommend this book it is an amazing love story.

Bruce Lawson
Bruce is an Open Web Evangelist at Opera Software, and is a member of the Web Standards Project's Accessibility Task Force. He speaks about HTML5 regularly at conferences such as OSCON, SxSW, @media, and the Future of Web series. Bruce re-coded his own website, brucelawson.co.uk, into HTML5 in January 2009. Prior to all that he's been a Bollywood movie extra, a tarot card reader in Istanbul, a volunteer pharmacist in Calcutta and tutor to a princess' daughter in Thailand.

Remy Sharp
Remy is a developer, speaker, blogger and author of upcoming books: jQuery for Designers (Manning) and contributing author of jQuery Cookbook (O'Reilly). Too much chatter, too little detail

I must say: I enjoyed going through this book. It is written in an opinionated and slightly irreverent style, so I found it a mildly amusing read.

That being said: why do people buy a book on HTML5? Some would like to have a good in-depth reference on the ins and outs of the new language. Well now - that's not this book. Others might be new to web development and think learning HTML5 would be a good starting point. While they are right that HTML (5 or 4) is the place to start, this book surely isn't.

There's some depth when it comes to background, but much less when it comes to HTML5 itself or how to use it. True, the tag and geolocation are covered pretty much in detail, but the author made some hard to defend choices in spending his paper estate.

HTML5 gives us no more than a handful of new tags, still some of those ( and , for example) are simply mentioned once and that's that. No examples, no advise on where to use them, nothing on browser support. Yet the book takes five pages at the start to tell the story of how the img-tag came into being some 15 years ago. Again, mildly amusing, but probably not the reason you are thinking of buying this book.

Another example: there are 10 pages with a primer on audio and video codecs, plus another 19 (!) detailed pages (with lots of screen shots) on how to use a number of specific and probably soon outdated software tools to encode video for the web. All fine for those who are completely new to video encoding and believe a book on HTML5 should be the starting point for that. But when it comes to the actual tag (under the aptly named heading "At Last, the Markup"), this consists of a meager 3 pages that include a statement like this:

"The element has methods like play() and pause()".

Huh? "Methods like"? So which other methods are there? And how and where would I use them? Are these standardized across browsers? Where can I find more about them? Any example, maybe?

If you think these are the kind of questions a book on HTML5 should answer, you are out of luck. The above sentence is all the information on this particular topic you are going to get. Not a word about implementing these methods, or on how to style the browsers' native video controllers that come with HTML5 support. There are a good number of external references for information on things like Unicode, codecs and video containers, and some useful scripts, but not a word on how we can get the information on how to control and style the tag. Maybe the logical conclusion would be: in another book on HTML5, perhaps?

Not Something I'd Make Part Of My Permanent Library

In the 1970s, ABC's "Schoolhouse Rock" took the tedious process of making a law and distilled it down into a 3-minute song that many of us can at least sing the first few bars from ("I'm just a bill, yes I'm only a bill, and I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill..."). Marc Pilgrim takes a different approach with the first chapter of this book, distilling the early history of HTML into fourteen eye-glazing pages. But if you can muddle through the initial proposal and discussion of the IMG tag, you get to Pilgrim's primary take-away of the chapter: HTML is not so much a thing, but a collection of things.

This is good, because the history of HTML has not been a smooth, step-by-step process. Different releases of different browsers have adopted different features of different specs at different times. I can personally recall rejoicing, back in the 90s, when both IE and Netscape finally implemented support for HTML tables. So it's no wonder that the second chapter dives into methods for detecting whether or not a user's browser supports certain HTML5 features.

If the first chapter was boring, the second is discouraging. First he shows how to check if Canvas is even supported. But once that's determined, you have to check if all the features of Canvas are supported. Moving on to the Video tag, even when that is supported, video format support varies across browsers. Basically, in these early days of HTML 5 support, it's like touring the United States early in the 20th century. Flush toilets and electric lights took longer to come to some areas than others.

After the third chapter started breaking down some of the new tags and how they affect the DOM, my eyes were good and glazed. This book is more discussion than documentation. If it was a car repair manual, instead of merely showing you the steps for changing the oil on your Honda, it would give you the history of the internal combustion engine, then detail different kinds of lubrication systems.

In short, there's a lot of valuable information in this book. Mark Pilgrim is no slouch on technical know-how or understanding of his topic. I just find the manner of presentation to be organized in such a way that I don't feel I have quick access to the information I want or that the available path to acquiring that knowledge is optimal. It's short on lab, long on lecture, and isn't something I'd make part of my permanent library.

A densely packed, informative read

HTML5 is creating more and more a name for itself in our industry, but while it excites those on the cutting edge of web technology, many are left feeling uncertain about it. Its ongoing development has been victim of politics, fragmentation and more, leaving few to have a good grasp of its current status. However, a lot of the technologies that make up HTML5 (and more) have become mature, even implemented across all the latest browsers--but did you know that? If you've kept an arms length to everything going on with HTML5, now is the time to dive into its waters and explore.

Fortunately, you don't have to do it all by yourself: just get Introducing HTML5, written by Bruce Lawson (Opera) and Remy Sharp (Left Logic).

Exactly as its name implies, Introducing HTML5 is an introduction to all the new semantics and application-oriented technologies that make up the HTML5 spec. You don't have to be a web development expert to read this, but you'll come out closer to one when you've finished. All you need is a good grasp of web standards-based techniques, e.g. semantic markup; separation of structure, presentation and behavior; and accessibility. Bruce and Remy will teach you everything you need to know to bring your skill set to the next level.

Starting out light, Introducing HTML5 first teaches you the most important new HTML5 elements and their semantic purposes, which is especially helpful if, like me, you kept an eye on these since the early stages of HTML5, but got confused as their meanings were changed or redefined.

The book continues with the new HTML5 Forms, serving as a nice segue into the more JavaScript-reliant HTML5 Audio and Video, before it hunkers down on the real new technologies in HTML5, starting with Canvas and going all the way to the Messages, Web Workers and Web Sockets APIs.

Throughout the book, Bruce and Remy do a great job at not just introducing the new technologies, but informing you exactly of what does and doesn't work in which browsers. Even the latest releases of browsers have some glaring bugs here and there, but where fixes are available, they are presented, and where not, workarounds explained. As a result, Introducing HTML5 is a tremendously practical book, going well beyond a surface-level introduction and straight-up teaching you how to wield these new technologies today.

One thing I am personally very happy about is how the book teaches you how to implement things in an accessible way (via ARIA or otherwise), making sure that visitors to your sites aren't left out. HTML5 is exciting, but our excitement shouldn't come at the cost of accessibility--and following Bruce and Remy's advice, it won't.

The compact but dense information in Introducing HTML5 means that in just an afternoon or two, you'll find yourself brimming with new knowledge, excitement and ideas for making your websites or web applications richer, more exciting and more powerful. All in all, a highly recommended read.

An Impressionable Woman's Unexpected Opportunity of a Lifetime

Norma Sheridan grew up in a household where, while they never went without, they never really had a lot of extra money either. Raised by a woman she calls Aunt Kate, the actual relationship between them is vague. Kate's children, Wolf and Rose, are Norma's closest friends.

At age nineteen Norma is taken under Marianna Melrose's wing, now to be called Aunt Marianna. Her new family includes Marianna's daughters, Alice and Annie along with their families and a granddaughter, Leslie who is close in age to Norma.

Norma finds herself living in a world with servants, piles of new clothes, and a high society lifestyle she's only dreamed of. She has mixed feelings about her new life. Sometimes she's thrilled with the opportunity, other times she can objectively see some of the people around her as being snobbish. She feels inadequate and undeserving of her new status until her Aunt Alice's husband Chris accidentally lets it slip that Aunt Marianna is actually Norma's grandmother.

Norma spends a lot of time at Aunt Alice's home, and with Alice's husband, Chris. Alice had been injured years earlier and can't walk, so she rarely leaves the house. Chris, however has an extremely busy social life. An attraction grows between Chris and Norma, and she has to deal with the guilt she feels towards Alice.

Norma has the unusual opportunity to choose between two very different worlds of wealth and status or the one in which she grew up in. She also has to choose between two men who love her above everything. Throughout the story the mystery of her birth parents pulls her along to her destiny.

This is a beautifully written story filled with wonderfully drawn characters. It was originally published in 1921 and nicely portrays how the very wealthy and middle class people lived at that time. The Beloved Woman is part of Project Gutenberg and can be read at gutenberg.org, google books, or at openlibrary.org for free.

One of my all time favorites

I read this book for the first time over forty years ago. Kathleen Norris was my mother's favorite author at the time, so I would sneak her books into my room when she wasn't reading them. The characters and surroundings are always beautifully described, their personalities well developed and her old fashioned yet passionate romantic story lines are top drawer. The Beloved Woman is one of her finer works. I was anxious to read it again and have enjoyed every minute since I received it. My other favorites written by this author are "The Sacrifice Years", "Barberry Bush", "Treehaven" and "Passion Flower.

To be busy--to be needed--to be loved

This book was similar to another Norris title I've read, "Maiden Voyage," in that it concerns a young girl falling in love with an older, married man. In both cases, the man falls in love with the girl too, or at least says he does, and the reader is left to evaluate how real that emotion is and how worthy of the girl's regard the man really is. Because in both cases, the author shows us the man through the girl's dazzled eyes, and then slowly reveals a more three-dimensional character as the story goes on. That's not to say that either was a bad man, just that the author is skilled at delving into her character's point of view and making the reader see things through that character's eyes. In "The Beloved Woman," the heroine not only falls in love with the man, but also with his life as a wealthy man of society. Circumstances drop the heroine into his world and the story follows her as she is drawn into his privileged world and has to figure out for herself if it is better than the humbler life she left behind. I didn't like this book quite as much as "Maiden Voyage" but overall it was a very good read.

Great book, but....

I love this collection. Great variety and good quality designs and pages. Single-sided and perforated, which is a big plus. The disappointing thing is that I purchased all three books in this "series", and now I have designs in duplicate and some even in triplicate! Your best bet is to purchase The Swear Word Coloring Book and pass on the other two.

Great d@m# book for adults

Best coloring book ever. I love the variety of the pictures and that I don't have to fill the whole page like in some other books. This is more like a kids' coloring book in that it has a big picture to color on each page, not a full page of a design which tends to take forever to color. The literally colorful language doesn't hurt either.

Trust Me: Even You Are Not Invisible. At Least Not Yet.

THE ART OF INVISIBILITY is a little bit scary. The authors, Kevin Mitnick and Robert Vamosi, document the myriads of ways that others can spy on our activities. You might think no one knows what you are doing, but you are wrong: "Each and every one of us is being watched." If you carry a cell phone, "You are being surveilled."

Mitnick tells the story of how the famous John McAfee, on the lam, was found supposedly by coordinates listed in the meta data of a photo posted online. The authors snicker, "Take it from me: if you’re trying to get off the grid and totally disappear, you don’t want to start a blog."

Some of the pointers are pretty basic, such as using strong passwords, and being careful to setup your home Wifi using the latest security protocols. A large chunk of the book relates to securing wireless internet access. "Public Wi-Fi wasn’t created with online banking or e-commerce in mind. It is merely convenient, and it’s also incredibly insecure."

More advanced suggestions are for those who feel they need extreme online privacy. These tactics include things such as using "burner" phones, paid for with cash, and using encryption tools to hide the data on our laptop.

Law enforcement has come a long way in tracking down fugitives. The authors explain how authorities use devices to mimic cellular base stations, and "designed to intercept voice and text messages." Using another tactic, the FBI has successfully tracked criminals by getting the cell tower data, and correlating their cell phone records.

I was surprised to learn of certain recent laws regarding data preservation. In the event of a legal investigation, you must preserve your entire browser history. You can be arrested--and people have been, for clearing the history.

The really meaty parts of the book provide extreme tactics to remain anonymous on the internet. Mitnick advises creating a complete new persona, "one that is completely unrelated to you. . . When you’re not being anonymous, you must also rigorously defend the separation of your life from that anonymous identity."

The first thing to do in making yourself anonymous is to get a cheap standalone laptop--used only for your anonymous persona. "Don't ever use the anonymous laptop at home or work. Ever."

Here are a few more tips for becoming anonymous:

* When you travel, don't bring electronics that store sensitive information with you.
* Encrypt the confidential data on your laptop.

The authors present a LOT of different ways to make your online persona more invisible. The authors admit, however, that even with all their precautions, it is still tough to be 100% anonymous. The main idea is to make it much more difficult for the intruder. So, put up "so many obstacles that an attacker will give up and move on to another target. . . Being anonymous in today’s digital world requires a lot of work and constant vigilance."

All in all, I found THE ART OF INVISIBILITY to be an interesting, fairly-practical read. It was good to be reminded about the proper setup of networks, and how vulnerable public systems can be. I don't feel the need to go out and buy a "burner" phone anytime soon, but it's good to know.

Where do I begin? I've been a computer geek my entire life. Well, since 1982, anyway. My dad bought me a Commodore 64 computer back then. I can't hardly remember a single day that has passed since then that I haven't had a computer in front of me at some point during the day. Heh, I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing!

Anyway, as a developer and security enthusiast, I've always been interested in the hacking scene. Back then, when Kevin Mitnick and Kevin Poulson were in the news because of their "activities", I was glued to the t.v. I wanted to know everything they did! See, the thing is, I was like them. I craved knowledge. I wanted to explore that hidden and forbidden world of the byte and the baud that consisted of inter-connected mainframes and central stations via phone lines. I dialed into a lot of "boards" (BBSes) and got "forbidden knowledge" of what they used to call "phreaking" (phone hacking) from text files uploaded by phreakers. I thought it was just fun and games and never really did anything with the so-called "power" that I had gleaned from those text files.

Fast forward to today, things are a lot worse, security-wise, with regards to computer security and threats to your private information. Especially since our daily lives are now entertwined with this ubiquitous thing called the internet. Every interaction we perform in our browsers, or internet-enabled applications, leaves information and trails that can be used against us. Our phones, even our automobiles, can be used to track us via GPS. Our credit card purchases can be used to build profiles of us that can be bought and sold to third party customers. Recently, the current U.S. Republican administration repealed a bill that would've prevented ISPs from selling your browsing information to private parties. Nothing you do online is private anymore. Nothing. This isn't like information that Facebook and Google collect on you. The ISP information is every single page that you go to in your browser. Think about this, for a moment: You have a medical condition. It's being treated and no one but your closest family knows about it. Like almost everyone with your condition, you browse online about it and have joined online support groups. Your child also suffers from a condition. They are autistic. Like almost any concerned parent, you look online to learn more about you child's condition and, too, to share your experiences and learn from others in similar situations. Recently, you've applied for a new job through a recruiter. They assure you that you're a perfect fit based on your resume and your phone screening interview with them. They want to pass your resume on to the company now, which you give your consent to do so. Your browsing data is considered the ISPs property now and can be sold as a commodity that is tied directly to you. Your prospective employer can now see that, based on your browsing history, that you have a medical condition and a child with autism. Which, more than likely, means you will probably miss a lot of work. So, they do what any good business will do: They pass on your resume. You don't even get a chance to interview with them. Your resume gets deep-sixed based soley off your browsing history and nothing else.

Now, with that nightmare scenario fresh in your head, I want you to understand that when I say this book can help you to avoid such a situation, I really mean it. From encrypting your email, to setting up a VPN, to using the anonymous Tor Onion browser and other security methods, this book can help someone that doesn't know anything about internet security by showing them how to secure their private information, their browsing habits, their email, and all online activity. Seriously, in this day and age, it's almost a sin not to be aware of at least the basic dangers out there in "cyberspace". With this book, you can be very sure that if you follow the steps provided, you'll be very secure from most of those threats.

The Art of Book Writing

I really enjoy Kevin Mitnicks work. Both his books as well as speeches and demos and overall life stories, hes innately a good story teller in my opinion.

Now I've read his other books, Ghost in the Wires, Art of Intrusion, and I really learned a fair amount reading them. I initially knew almost nothing about phone phreaking when those books came out and I finally read them. Fast foward in time a good deal and I know a good amount more about security, OPSEC, security researching ectect...

As other reviewers have said, this book is a good read, but its alot less technical/advanced than his other reads.....

This is what I will say without ruining the book for you. Just go to the pictures I've included and look at the chapter page, if you think you know everything about everything about these topics, maybe this book isnt for you. It still is an entertaining read though.

Keep it up Mr. Mitnick.

Great book.

What can I say? This book is written by someone with a great deal of experience in this area. Rather than torturing you with excessive verbosity, Daddy Wendell gets right to business, and tells you what you need to know.

The book is mercifully thin, and has all the information you need to start making your own gear.

As with everything, with experience will come... expertise. However, what Daddy Wendell relates is very accessible, even for the attention impaired.

What you won't find is a collegiate textbook that takes a team of Yak to move from one place to another.

What you will find is the nuts and bolts of how to get from looking at leather gear and buying it at ridiculous prices, to being able to make it for yourself for a fraction of the cost.

Rather than detracting from a person's interest in leather goods, it will make you appreciate them more. I have found it most stimulating, and look forward to putting it to good use in the very near future.

Daddy Wendell is someone who has been in the scene, well, for a quite a while, and has the experience and the gift to relate what he knows to the reader: a rare gift.

Amazing, useful book!

Have you ever wondered how to make your own leather gear for a fraction of the cost of what the stores sell it for?

If so, this is the book for you. Daddy Wendell provides a humorous and insightful look into the world of leather craftsmanship. He takes would-be leather craftspeople from step 1 to completed product effortlessly, never missing a beat as he lays out patterns and plans for useful and devious designs. Would-be readers are in for another treat- Daddy Wendell is a leather historian. As he guides readers into leather making, he also shares the rich history of leather culture.

This book is not to be missed. It is worth so much more than ten dollars- it is an enjoyable read and will save you tons of money as you make your own gear for a fraction of the retail price!

Many gems in this varied mix

This is a collection of 29 essays about software development, selected and introduced by Joel Spolsky (of Joel on Software fame).

I've been a regular reader of Joel's site for many years, and many of the themes Joel has been writing about (social software, outsourcing, the dangers of measuring the performance of individuals using simple bug metrics, and sales and marketing of software) are reflected in the included essays.

Many of the authors have already published books of their own (Bruce Eckel, Paul Graham, Mary Poppendieck and Ron Jeffries come to mind), but regardless of whether they've been published before or not, the writing is consistently good. This isn't surprising, since according to the back cover, the goal of the book is to show-case good writing, and since Joel himself is a very good writer.

I had read a few of the essays before the book was published (and in the case of "Great Hackers" by Paul Graham, I had actually listen to it, thanks to ITConversations), but most of them were new to me. They cover a lot of different angles on software development, from how to format your code, to forced overtime.

The best essays in my opinion are "The Pitfalls of Outsourcing Programmers" (a short but well argued piece on why outsourcing many times isn't such a good idea), "Strong Typing vs. Strong Testing" (on the benefits of automatic unit tests) and "Style is Substance" (why not standardizing on one coding style - why not indeed).

Actually, as I look through the contents to pick which essays I liked the most, it is hard to choose. Many of them are really good. I have to pick a few more: "Measuring Testers by Test Metrics Doesn't" (with a great example of exactly how this can create a lot of extra work without adding any value), and the cleverly named "How Many Microsoft Employees Does It Take to Change a Lightbulb?" (explaining how a seemingly small change ripples through a big company).

Also, honorable mentions to Clay Shirky's two entries about social software (I had read both before, but they are very insightful and worth re-reading) and to Eric Sink's about software sales and marketing.

The least interesting for me were "Processing Processing" (musings on the nature of the web) and "Passion" (about passion for programming, which is a good subject, but this essay just didn't work for me).

There are also a couple of entries in the "Humor" category. The second essay is a hilarious send-up of the crappy Windows search, and the last essay made me laugh aloud several times. It's a quick tour of Ruby (the programming language), but with lots of stream-of-consciousness side tracks. And cartoon foxes! Not to be missed.

Joel's introductions are generally good and add to the experience. There is also a liberal sprinkling of footnotes, where Joel explains certain names and terms. Mostly this is OK, but it goes over-board sometimes. Given that this presumably is a book the will mostly be read by software developers, do we really need explanations of API-call, iTunes or Skype?

I suspect this collection will be followed by a "The Best Software Writing II", and I'm looking forward to reading that one too. By the way, since all the essays were culled from the web, you can probably find all of them just by surfing. But for me, it was worth it to have them all collected in book-form.

To summarize, a varied collection of interesting and well written essays on software development. Recommended.

If you're interested in the business of software, Joel Spolsky is a name that should definitely be on your bookshelf. He is smart, experienced, and has a wealth of knowledge to share. His writing style is plain-spoken and filled with interesting anecdotes that hold the reader's attention while he teaches them something good.
