Where poverty and limited resources exist, innovative technology is making education more available by online delivery. About the Author

Robert Hogan was previously an Associate Professor in the School of Education at the University of the South Pacific. His areas of research include science education and e-learning. His most recent research was a $100,000 grant supported by the World Health Organization to develop a blended and mobile learning chemistry course for the Pacific. Previously, Bob was Associate Vice President at Florence Darlington Technical College where he developed the online campus and wrote and received a $450,000 FIPSE grant to develop online partnerships among eight colleges in France, Germany, Spain, the United States and England. Dr. Hogan received his M.S. from New York University in physical oceanography and his doctorate from the University of Central Florida in science education. Bob has also worked as a systems engineer for Lockheed Martin and a science editor for Harcourt Brace. He has a large number of publications in the field of distance learning and loves to scuba dive.

Easy-reading prose and a no-nonsense approach will carry readers through this collection of anecdotes and rules for healthier living from first time author and Divorce Court star/judge Toler. As the title implies, Toler draws heavily on lessons learned from her mother, some of which, such as the revelation that Toler's mother "lies, both often and well, if she feels the truth will get in someone's way," will surprise. And while the stories of Toler's upbringing have their merit, the book's strength lies in the sober, no-nonsense advice: "The Peanut Gallery Rule" asks whether "you would still be doing what you're doing if other folks could see," while Toler's suggestion to "Globalize Your Pain Quotient" makes most quotidian frustrations seem petty. The rules, many of which are accompanied by their own mini-vignette, are explained at the end of each thematic chapter and are all re-listed at the end of the book for easy browsing. Readers looking for real-world direction could do much worse.

About the Author
Lynn Toler received her BA from Harvard and her JD from the University of Pennsylvania before spending ten years as a practicing attorney, and then seven years as administrative judge of Cleveland Heights Municipal Court. In 2001, she hosted the TV show Power of Attorney, and beginning September 2006, she is the new star of the syndicated hit Divorce Court.

Rules that we can all use to make our lives happier and more productive.

I loved this book. Judge Lynn Toler shares her mother's wisdom for a happier more fulfilling life in a charming memoir. The rules she follows help us gain control of ourselves and our reactions to the world we live in.

Best book I've read in ages!

This should be required reading for anyone and everyone. Judge Toler packs an incredible amount of wisdom, humor, humility, honesty, and sage advice into an easy, accessible read. There is no fluff or filler. She gets straight to the point with real talk. I wish I'd have read this book a decade ago.
