The best smoothie recipe book out there IMHO.

This book has a ton of recipes for smoothies for diabetics. It is the best recipe book I have seen so far. Very happy with this purchase. Will definitely use this vendor in the future, it arrived earlier than expected and pkging was great.

EXCELLENT for weight loss!

AMAZING. I've lost twenty-five pounds using these recipes. I'm very, very happy with this book. I'm hypoglycemic (have blood sugar levels that are higher than normal blood sugar levels), and I was searching Amazon for a NutriBullet recipe book that had a good nutritional breakdown, so that I could choose the recipes with the lowest sugar content, so that I could lose weight (the healthy way). There's lots of easy, fast, great recipes with a nutritional info. breakdown for each smoothie recipe, so that you know what nutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, fat, and calories) that you're getting within each smoothie. I would HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone who's serious about maintaining or especially losing weight in the healthiest way possible, while getting all the high fiber, low-carb dense nutrition and finally feeling much better. This is the perfect NutriBullet companion smoothie recipe book. Search no more! I would however like it much more if they would put the sugar content in these recipes, or rather a glycemic index rate per recipe. Hopefully that info. will be in the next publishing. I don't have Type 2 Diabetes, so I don't know much about it, but if I did, I would bring this book to my doctor or a good nutritionist that specializes in Diabetes, to verify that this book keeps you on the right track for controlling your blood sugar, or for losing weight, or even using as a meal replacement. I would only replace one meal a day with one of these recipes.

Another great addition

If you are interested in the "Kolsh" style, I think this book is a great read. I would not get it if you are only looking for some recipes of Kolsh, there are not many to choose from in this book due to the style. With some of the other books in this series I had hoped for a few "clone" attempts, but with Kolsh, that is simply not necessary. Primary factors in brewing this style are temperature that you ferment and yeast contributions and characteristics.

This is a nice style beer to brew if you want to let people try a homebrew that would move them away from a commercial brewed brand without overwhelming them.

It is well written and not overly scientific.

Top Source on Kolsch

Author Eric Warner earned a degree in master brewing from Weihenstephan one of the oldest breweries in the world and also one of the best places in the world to learn about brewing German Beer. For the past 20 years he has been brewing German style beer professionally in Colorado. The author's training and experience show throughout the book. He writes one of the best chapters on the history of the beer and how it came to be the Kolsch we know and love of any book in this series. His discussion of the sensory profile engages the avid drinker yet contains enough detail for the home brewer. He follows this with a chapter on brewing Kolsch that demonstrates his training and technical expertise. He follows up with an enjoyable chapter on enjoying Kolsch in Cologne, its native city. For the professional and home brewer he also provides recipes. Warner includes appendices on the breweries if Cologne and the city's food. This is easy enough to follow for the average beer fan yet provides enough information for the professional brewer to tackle the style. His discussion of Cologne might warrant taking this book along on your next trip to Europe.

Exceptional

I love reading my Bible and have an entire bookshelf filled with different ones. To me it is interesting to see how each translation brings forth a particular Scripture. It can be very eye opening, to say the least. I have the Ancient Roots Old Testament and I have loved using it for several years now. I was excited when I heard the news that the New Testament was available, I bought it as soon as I could.

How do I feel about it? I love it. First it is in paperback which makes it easier to tote around, which I often do. The print is of good size and I don't have to squint, even with my glasses on to read it, so that is a plus. The cover is bold, yet very tasteful. I like it. Now onto the Word. The very first page gives you information that I'm sure most of us do not know. Did you know that Jesus (Yeshua) is a repairman, not a carpenter? Wow! There are several things to learn just in the Preface. After this, we have the Introduction, which is several pages explaining what you are about to read. All of that content was interesting and helpful.

Now onto the meat. Let me say right off that I love this book. I have to say I was somewhat shocked because I definitely did not recognize some of the Scriptures that I thought I knew so well. I keep my old Bible with me when I am reading Ancient Roots because at times I have to go back and forth so I know where I am in the text. This is not a bad thing, actually I'm excited to see exactly what should have been written in the first place . It is often surprising, and I find, I have finally come to understand so much more than I did before. Certain Scripture take on total different meanings than I had come to know. I can't believe all that I have been missing, this book is definitely enriching my walk with the Lord ! Let me say for all of you that love the Word of God, this is a must have. If you want to know what was really spoken you have to get this translation. I have already purchased copies for my family and I intend to get as many as possible to give to friends. Exceptional work and a must have for all those who love the Word of God. Very highly recommended.

I don't like this translation. Many of the words seem like you looked up a word in the dictionary and used the most ancient meaning, rather than the word itself. For example, Luke 21:25 says:

"Signs will happen with the sun and with the moon and with the stars. On the land, the prod-poking of the gentile-peoples, and hands surrendered, stunned from the voice of the sea."

The ESV of this verse says: "And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves,"

Young's Literal Translation and Greens Literal both have better wording than this thing.

Great translation

I am an atheist and oddly enough i enjoy studying bible translations. I bought this a few months back and was surprised at how well the translator did. It reads very literal which i enjoy. I have over 100 bible translations and i would say this is a top 20 favorite of mine.

About the Author
Holger Thesleff was born in 1924, in Helsinki, Finland. He was an artillerist in the wars against the Soviets, after which he sailed around the world as an apprentice and third mate on a square-rigger. Tales of the adventures were published in Farewell Windjammer (Thames & Hudson, 1951.)

His academic studies included Greek, Latin and Comparative Linguistics at the University of Helsinki.�He completed his postgraduate studies in London (UCL) in the early 1950s and received his PhD�(Helsinki) in 1954, with a thesis on intensifying expressions in ancient Greek.�In addition to his many publications in Finnish and Swedish, he also authored works in English on the Greek and Latin languages. In the late 1950s, he began to study�the Pythagorean literature from a Platonistic perspective (two important contributions in English, 1961 and 1965), after which he devoted his studies to Plato.�

Since 1955, Thesleff had various academic appointments in Finland, and in 1968, he was honored with the chair of Greek Philology at the University of Helsinki, from which he retired in 1987. Among his many accomplishments, he edited the complete translations of Plato in Swedish and Finnish.�He is a member of various professional societies, and is a founding member of the Nordic Plato Society (Platonselskabet) since 1970, and of the International Plato Society (IPS) since 1989. He was frequently invited to international conferences in Europe, Australia, and in the United States.

This present collection includes most of his contributions to Plato studies written in English. However, he has also published numerous academic works in Swedish and Finnish on the history of ancient ideas, and especially�on Plato.�Among his publications is a comprehensive monograph on Plato (Platon, in Finnish, 1989, and in Swedish, 1990); and, in cooperation with Juha Sihvola, a volume on�Ancient Philosophy and the History of Ideas(Antiikin historia ja aatemaailma�in Finnish, 1994).

Among his hobbies are history, yachting, and spending time with his family, including his great-grandchildren.

With a languorous storyteller's flair, Svenvold thoroughly teases out the story of Elmer McCurdy, a "screw-up and ne'er-do-well bandit bungler who had accidentally achieved fame long after death." McCurdy's "pathetic, nine-month crime spree" of attempted train robberies-long after the end of the great era of train robbers-opens this well-drawn story, which focuses more on McCurdy's afterlife, when his mummified body was passed from traveling circus to wax museum to its final resting place, a graveyard in Oklahoma, where the body of the outlaw, who had become larger than life, was ultimately transformed into a "site, a locus, a mirror of the fantasy life of an American public." The account becomes a meditation on fame and death and our nostalgia for the romantic myth of the American West. Poor Elmer McCurdy. After this comically inept, would-be train robber met a violent end in a shootout in 1911 Oklahoma, his corpse was embalmed with arsenic and began a decades-long second career as a sideshow attraction and Z-movie film prop. McCurdy's unique course through the American entertainment industry has attracted some interest in the past (Richard J. Basgall's The Career of Elmer McCurdy, Deceased). This grim but quirky tale of a man denied any dignity in life or death is considerably enlivened by poet Svenvold's picturesque and often humorous prose describing the history of the "Oklahoma Outlaw's" place in campy nostalgia. However, the thread of McCurdy's interesting journey is regularly lost among forays into such diverse topics as Douglas MacArthur's early army career and Osage Indian land rights. As a result, the reader soon feels as if the ticket were paid for but that there was nothing under the big top. In life, McCurdy was a classic two-bit loser, but after his death he was suddenly glorified as a hard-riding outlaw, and his embalmed body was turned into a sideshow attraction. The tale of McCurdy's corpse becomes a lively, digressive history of the underside of American popular entertainment in the twentieth century, from carnivals to exploitation films. Avoiding a ponderous cultural-studies tone, Svenvold offers sharp reflections on the cult of the outlaw and the charms of hucksterism, while staying keenly attuned to the wonderful strangeness of a culture that could transform a corpse into a celebrity.

Corny and better than Cornwell!

I just sequed into reading Elmer McCurdy's story immediately after reading Cornwell's newest on Jack the Ripper; I mention this because both authors like to ramble way off track, but unlike Cornwell, Svenvold never forgets to bring us back to Elmer and tie up all the strings; his forensic notes are written and described well, and backed up with data; all of which Ms C. just stumbles through. I live in the town where Mr. McCurdy was found, and I am in charge of an archival collection that has just added this book to a permanent collection of Long Beach history materials. I was wishing for more photos and illustrations, but I realize those were often difficult to find. This is a very entertaining and interesting read; but plan to take your time; it's not for people in a ripping hurry. Enjoy it!

Outlaw Poetry

It's not often that one sees a biography written in such a literate, even poetic manner. Mr. Svenvold has taken the tale of the hapless outlaw, Elmer McCurdy, in a new and interesting direction: rather than reporting his life and times (and ignominious post-mortem "career") in a cut-and-dried manner, Mr. Svenvold has woven an incisive, at times deadpan-hilarious commentary on the fading Wild West, the rise of sideshows and exploitation flicks, theme tourism and other illustrations of just how low the entertainment taste of the American public can go. Notwithstanding Mr. Svenvold's concerns that he was just another in the long line of the day-glow corpse's "exploiters," he has written the equivalent of a decent burial for poor dead Elmer. Highly recommended.

Paul Dugliss, M.D. practices Ayurvedic Medicine and Internal Medicine in Santa Barbara, California. He is the former director of the Oakwood Healthcare System's Complementary and Alternative Medicine Center in Westland, Michigan. A student of Ayurvedic Medicine since the 1980s, he trained both in the country and abroad. Dr. Dugliss has training in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as a masters degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology. The information in this book goes beyond "diet". It is an approach that shows how food nourishes tissue, builds energy, boosts mood and optimizes health. My eyes were opened to the true definition of diet and food as one source of a healthy physical body as well as emotional well being. This holistic approach includes recipes addressing improved digestion as well as a plethora of scientific research and information that helped me understand how food and digestion combine to create health and longevity. Eating in this fashion has drawn me into optimal weight with effort spent on balancing the doshas rather than dieting. About the Author

Rachel Fell McDermott is professor in the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Cultures at Barnard College. She is a specialist in Bengali goddess worship whose books include Revelry, Rivalry, and Longing for the Goddesses of Bengal: The Fortunes of Hindu Festivals; Singing to the Goddess: Poems to Kali and Uma from Bengal; and Mother of My Heart, Daughter of My Dreams: Kali and Uma in the Devotional Poetry of Bengal.

Leonard A. Gordon is professor of history emeritus of the City University of New York and the author of Brothers Against the Raj: A Biography of Indian Nationalists Subhas and Sarat Chandra Bose and Bengal: The Nationalist Movement, 1876–1940. He is also the director of the Taraknath Das Foundation.

Ainslie T. Embree is professor of history emeritus of Columbia University. Since his retirement, he has taught at Brown University and the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He is the editor of Sources of Indian Tradition: From the Beginning to 1800, Volume 1, Second Edition.

Great selection of primary sources

I think this is a great collection of primary sources. I bought this for an introduction to Indian Civilizations class and we had to read selections from the book. The pieces give us varied voices from different periods of Indian history. In other classes, I might have skimmed the readings (if I read at all), but I read these selections carefully and enjoyed the readings as well. Besides the contents, the book itself is lovely. Since it's a big book, it's heavy, so prone to ripping in half, though. One should be careful with it if one wants to keep it in good condition, since books of this size bound in soft cover tend to rip right in half.
